We were so busy we didn't get chance to take many photos but here's a selection of some of the stalls. We are still selling raffle tickets for our Summer Fundraiser if you want to contact us to buy some tickets. Thanks so much to all the stallholders and everyone who came out to support our charity, all the funds help us to keep running our community ga

Water tower mystery
The water tower at Green Futures. If you've been to the woods in Green Futures you may have noticed our rather gothic-looking water tower. I've been digging around in the Archives at Town Hall and seen the plan for when it was built in July 1918. It's made from concrete with a steel window, long gone now, with a lined tank in the top. It's rather ingenious as a wind pump would have pumped water from the bore hole up to the tank, and then two other pipes would have gravity-fed

Day's eyes
Daisies in the sunshine. When you look at the daisies and dandelions enjoying the April sunshine and attracting early pollinators it seems such a shame that this time of year coincides with us doing the first grass cut of the year. If you can hold off doing that first cut then you will be rewarded with daisies, dandelions or even dog violets in your lawn, all helping to provide vital nectar sources for our bees and insects!

Volunteer with us!
Green Futures is a charity based on a 3.5-acre site on Bradley Road in Grimsby. We maintain a growing space that includes four poly tunnels, we also have a workshop, pond, nature trail, woodland and heritage apple orchard. We rely on volunteers to help us grow produce and maintain the site all year round, and in turn our volunteers benefit from open spaces and companionship in a nurturing growing environment. It’s a green sanctuary on the edge of Grimsby. What will you do? He

Nature walk open day
Busy Bees with one of our nature activity bags. Artist Rachel Spencer with one of her creations by the pond. Rhubarb Theatre with their Wonderland of Games. Our opening speech and ribbon cutting with James the Canoe River Cleaner. Thank you so much to everyone who came to support the opening of our new nature walk yesterday. It was just so lovely to have the site full of folks enjoying our community garden. The skies were grey but it didn't dampen anyone's spirits. Thanks als

Willow sculptures
Last week Alison Walling of Lincolnshire Willow came to put the fish and dragonfly weavings around the pond area as we start to pull the last pieces of our nature walk together for our opening on Saturday. It hasn't taken too many dry days for this area to dry out after the winter soaking so nobody will get their feet wet on Saturday when we will take our first visitors around site to do some nature and art engagement!

Flags flying under blue skies
Our first flag is up! For the last few Fridays Charley was at What If We Create in Freshney Place with some of our craft ladies helping to print flags for our nature walk, while our other volunteers on site have been repurposing scaffolding poles to hang them from. This project is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities

Nature walk open day
We are starting to put the word around about our nature walk open day, and the plans are all beginning to come together. Please help us to make the day a big success and share the poster about the event, so we can have a great day (hopefully in the sunshine!) and have as many folks on site as we can to enjoy our special space!

Dead hedging in the woods
Working in the sunshine. What a beautiful day to have CATCH on site working with our volunteers to finish the dead-hedging around the nature trail in the woods. It's only a month to go now until our official open day on April 11 when visitors will be able to see the results of all this hard work!

One job at a time...
The gable end on site has been needing some tlc for a while! A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. The sun is out and we are all busy getting ready for the opening of our Nature Walk next month - it has felt a bit overwhelming with the amount of jobs to do, but today has shown the power of teamwork. I was flagging a bit after painting the gable end, and couldn't quite manage the last tip of the painting. Noel asked for my brush, and for me to foot the ladde

Memorial garden in bloom
The memorial garden on site. Our memorial garden was set up a few years ago along with Near and Near. It is looked after by our volunteers who carefully tend this area with thoughts of people who are no longer with us, they've been planting some bulbs ready for next spring.

Planting willow rods
Willow rods leftover from the pond fencing. After Alison from Lincolnshire Willow had finished weaving her magic around the pond, she had some leftover willow rods which she suggested that we plant around the edge of the woodland. Noel, Jan, Alison and Sarah braved the rain to put these in with cardboard mulch covers - hopefully they will root and fill in a bit of a gap in the woodland.

Looking for ley lines
We've had some amazing carved posts done for our new nature walk, these were done by woodcarver Allen Stichler and now we are deciding where to put them in our woodland. Today volunteer Noel brought his dowsing rods on site and was finding ley lines so we can choose where to put the remaining posts. Our nature walk is starting to take shape, we just need the site to dry up a bit more as it's muddy out there! Using dowsing rods in the woodland.

Looking for fungi in the woods
We didn't think that their would be much to see when Tim Bruning, a fungi expert, came on site this morning, as it was starting to snow. But how wrong we were. Tim is sending some of the samples away for identification, but did identify in situ, turkey tails and netted crust. Tim looking for fungi on dead wood in our woods. These beautiful turkey tails look like oyster shells, and varied in colour from dun browns to oranges.

Trimming the trees!
Our orchard is home to lots of different heritage apple trees. Last month they were wassailed to by Grimsby Morris and this month our long-standing volunteer Kieran has bene pruning the trees, this makes sure that there will be plenty of light and air for the trees as they grow their apples through the summer. We will be using this year's apple crop to make juice again, as it was really popular last autumn and at the wassail. It's important to prune the trees before the end o
