Water tower mystery

If you've been to the woods in Green Futures you may have noticed our rather gothic-looking water tower. I've been digging around in the Archives at Town Hall and seen the plan for when it was built in July 1918. It's made from concrete with a steel window, long gone now, with a lined tank in the top. It's rather ingenious as a wind pump would have pumped water from the bore hole up to the tank, and then two other pipes would have gravity-fed the water out to standpipes in the area. A nice bit of heritage, covered in ivy, and no longer used but an important part of the story of our site!
